The Mauna Lani
Resort on the
Kohala Coast of
the Big Island of
Hawaii is known
for its exclusive
Bungalows for
the rich and
famous. One
doesn't need to
stay at the
Bungalows to
enjoy this
wonderful
resorts
amenities.
A gorgeous sandy beach
sheltered by reef. The
resort is known for its
Green Sea Turtle
Education program.
Every July 4 they release
the larger animals on
these sandy beaches.
This originally attracted
sharks so to protect
hotel guests a shark net
is strung at the reef
entrance.

Turtle education includes monthly
health checks and cleaning.
Above Members of the hotel's staff
perform a health check on one of
the soon to be released resident
turtles.

Left  Guests are given a chance to
scrub algae off the turtle backs. In
the wild cleaner wrasse would do
this job.  Kids love this opportunity
to touch a wild animal.  Parents
love the photo opportunity.
The Eco-friendly atmosphere of the
grounds is visible in many ways...
Grey Francolins feed out of your hands if
you are patient.

Young turtles live in
ponds within the Atrium.
Sleeping peacefully this
baby is not much larger
than a football.
These ponds also have
other native fish life that
the turtles will interact
with in the wild. As the
animals grow they are
moved to larger ponds
with larger fish.
Ponds in the Atrium.
The Resort is
located next to an
ancient Hawaiian
fish pond. These
ponds were built so
that the small fish
were able to get
into these
sheltered coves but
once they reached
a certain size they
would be too large
to escape.
Everywhere along
the beach you see
the young fish.
Restored
structures like
these dot the
property. There
are
complimentary
guided tours
available for
visitors.
On a clear morning you
might be lucky enough to
see the island of Maui from
the beach. The peak of
Haleakala towers above the
cloud shrouded island
The Mauna Lani Resort is
a peaceful getaway and
only 30 minutes North of
the Kailua-Kona.

I personally love the
many Resorts that line
the Gold Coast of
Kohala.  The Mauna Lani
is a more Adult type
resort but there is the
Hilton Waikoloa thats
truly a kid friendly place
with its huge pools and
water slides.

Come visit my islands
and enjoy the VIEWS.
